Audio Visual Systems Technician – University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg

Main Purpose:
The primarily purpose of the Audio Visual (AV) systems Technician is to provide Audio Visual Systems maintenance services and oversee AV Vendors delivering AV design/ installation/ programming/ repair and maintenance work. Secondary duties include end-user support, AV setup and support for events including Teaching and Learning, Conferences and training of academics, ICT colleagues/ interns, students, facilitators, and delegates/ guests in the proper use/ maintenance/ service/ support of AV Systems in order to ensure service excellence. Other duties include daily monitoring of and reporting on performance of AV facilities and resources to the unit manager. Maintenance and Repair/ Replacement of AV/IT hardware. Liaising with unit manager(s) and project manager(s) on specific AV operational issues and project designs, plans and delivery as part of a project team. Assisting unit Manager to perform AV System Performance Criteria sign-off tests to ensure project deliverable compliance. Training AV Support Technicians, Interns and End-users. Supporting the unit manager(s) to ensure AV business continuity and project success thus guarantying CAVS value delivery/ overall satisfaction of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
Write AV Control Systems Code and Program AV Controllers
Provide input and suggestions on effective use of audio visual/ IT
/related technical equipment and software.
Promote knowledge transfer of solutions to both staff and students.
Set up AV systems for seminars, functions, and lectures.
Set up video and web conferencing for online collaboration.
Configuration of wireless network and LAN network for AV purposes.
Training of staff and students on audio-visual devices
Monitor and Control AV Systems on Crestron Fusion and other remote AV management applications.
Monitor work performed by AV Vendors and ensure compliance.
Research and Design AV Solutions fit for purpose.
Derive AV Systems Specifications
Installation and configuration of audio-visual equipment
Diagnose AV hardware and software faults and problems.
Maintain inventory of hardware supplies.

Requirements:
Qualifications – Grade 12; Diploma/ Certificate in Electronic engineering /Sound Engineering with AV OEM Certification (essentially Crestron Technician and Programmer – CTI-P101 preferably CTI-P201 and above)/ National Certificate Information Technology Technical Support and or other AV/ ICT OEM Certificates may be considered (NQF Level 4 and above).
Experience – 2 years in the AV industry.
Advanced AV, Electronics & IT Networks and AV Design, Installation and Programming skills are required for the position and technicians must be able to work under pressure at any given time, the incumbent must also be certifiable to work at heights above 2.5 meters and to rig, test and inspect scaffolding.
Valid Driver’s license or even a learner’s license (with provision that the candidate is able to obtain a valid driver’s license within 6 months of employment)

Preferences:
Degree/ Diploma in Electronic engineering /IT Networks and AV OEM specific Certification especially Crestron CTI-P201, CTI-SG and CTI-FUSION-P any other additional AV OEM certification will be an added advantage.
Previous work experience at a University environment or similar AV installation and programming environment. Technicians are expected to be available to work over the weekends, during holidays and overtime during the week.
