Are you interested in becoming a researcher that contributes to the cutting edge of
knowledge in the field of Mathematics (Algebra/Analysis/Differential Geometry or
Topology)? Do you want to grow into an academic and researcher in one of these

opportunity, in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education’s New General
Academic Programme, to join the University of KwaZulu – Natal and become part of our
journey to becoming the premier University of African Scholarship. The successful
candidate is expected to register for the doctoral degree at UKZN and will be closely
mentored to becoming an academic through a developmental programme and with
early career development.
The incumbent will report to the Dean and Head of School of Mathematics, Statistics
and Computer Science.

Minimum Requirements:
• A relevant Honours degree in mathematics
• A Masters degree in an appropriate area of pure mathematics
• South African Citizen
The successful applicant will be expected to complete a PhD within 5 years from the
date of assumption of duty.

A brief statement of motivation regarding the applicant’s aspiration to become an
academic and a researcher must accompany the applications.
